Here’s the proof. It’s not rocket science after all. If we prevent the litters in the first place, we don’t have to inevitably kill the excess litters later in the year when we run out of safe homes for them. Nathan Winograd can claim what he will but I’ve yet to see proof that there are enough “safe” homes for all the animals that we are currently killing in the shelters for space. It’s at this point I lose a little confidence in the NK theory of shelter reform.
But I digress. The Oconee County Humane Society spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to subsidize pet owners. They’re making it back threefold. It’s a completely WIN WIN investment. Low cost/Subsidized Spay/Neuter programs are the easiest, fastest and most cost efficient method available to us to put the breaks once and for all on all this killing that happening every single day at YOUR local animal shelter.
